Virtual climate trail with 18 stations, a digital companion to the climate adventure trail above Pontresina: audio guide, picture exploration, drag-and-drop quizzes and opinion polls. In German and English. Awarded the Comenius EduMedia Seal 2009.
Developed 2007–2009 for EducETH, the education portal of ETH Zurich. As on the real trail, learners follow 18 themed stations and climb 400 metres in altitude, here by passing progress checks. The companion character Elena guides them through the stations with postcards and audio, an altimeter shows the progress, and a certificate awaits at the end.
Each station combines an introduction, learning targets and interactions: aerial photos with explanations on mouse-over, drag-and-drop matching tasks and sliders for a personal assessment, with the votes collected in a database. A learning overview and deep linking followed at the end of 2009, and in 2013 an English version for Academia Engiadina. Content, glossary and texts are stored in XML; the backend is built with PHP/MySQL. Besides the development, I also contributed my own panorama photos.
The virtual climate trail received the Comenius EduMedia Seal in 2009.
